Officer Tim Farris has worked as an officer for Portland since 1997. Before working for Portland, he had experience working as a corrections officer for Cumberland County as well as summer reserve work in Old Orchard Beach. Tim’s work in the department is broad - it included work as a beat officer, a community policing officer in housing and as a plains clothed investigator in the department’s now-defunct tactical enforcement unit. He is known as an involved, proactive officer who is compassionate to the community he serves. Some of the facts about Tim and his career at the Portland Police Department are:

Recently Officer Farris worked to start the first Portland Police Explorer Post - through his diligence and hard work, the first class has graduated, and he is working to recruit a new class.

Officer Farris’s interest in alternative energy resulted in his building an eco home.

He works on the crisis negotiation team and the crisis intervention team, both of which utilize his strong communication skills.

Tim’s serves on the Portland Police honor guard and the recruitment team.

Officer Farris has extensive knowledge and insight of Portland’s Asian community, as his wife is from Southeast Asia.

Before his career in law enforcement, Tim served for 6 years in the US Army Reserves as an infantry combat team sergeant.
