Fraud  (2/1/2009)
Unknown suspects knocked on elderly female's door and asked if she would like her roof cleaned. The woman declined but as she did one the males walked into her kitchen, leaving the 2nd male on the porch, and continued to ask her if she would like the roof cleared as he lowered the price. During his time in the kitchen the male picked up a prescription and took a check that was used at CVS by a female (picture pending). Male suspect descriptions: #1 W, M, 35,5'6, clean hair cut wearing a dark colored jacket and ski hat #2 W, M, 35, 5'10, scruffy beard, no front teeth Driving a red and white older model truck, possibly a Ford Suspect approached a neighbor before going to the victim's residence and asked to borrow a ladder claiming to have been hired by the victim to clear the roof.

Inspection sticker thefts  (1/13/2009)
Inspection sticker thefts continued into the new year after a brief holiday break. Target vehicles continue to be limited to this area of the city. Suspects typically smash a window to gain entry and then remove the sticker, often cracking the windshield. If you have any information please contact the detective bureau at 874-8533

MV burglaries  (12/13/2008)
At least 2 vehicles were burglarized in N. Deering over the weekend. One vehicle was parked on Roaring Brook Way and the other was on Summit Street. Both vehicles were unlocked allowing easy access to the vehicle for the offenders. Unlocked vehicles, even if they are parked in your driveway, are popular targets in Deering neighborhoods. If your car was burglarized, or gone through with nothing taken, please contact the PD at 874-8479 to report the activity.

There was 3 burglaries on University Street last month in which the suspect was able to gain entry to the home via an unlocked door. Suspects have been identified in these breaks with warrants pending. The Portland Police Department strongly urges residents to secure their homes at all times.

Mischief and theft  (12/13/2008)
Several vehicles parked in the West End this weekend reported windows smashed out over the weekend. Target vehicles were parked on May, Spring and Gray Streets. There are no suspects and no estimates on the amount of damage that may have been caused to the interior of the vehicle from the snow. Cash was taken from one of the target vehicles.
